Blurred text and other blurryness

Wondering if anyone can help me, apologies if this isn't the right part of the forum.

Basically text on my desktop pc is generally fine, I can browse the internet and read/type word documents etc. with no issues as the text is crisp and clear. However with certain applications or other specific text boxes etc. everything is so blurred to the point that its basically unreadable

This is kind of hard to describe but I have this print screen that should hopefully make it all clear (or not as this case may be :p)

So far this particular application is blurry as hell, but I logged into my 32bit windows on the same pc and the same application was fine, nothing but totally clear. I remember that the installer screen for Football Manager 2011 was also blurry as well and barely readable yet I have installed other games with no issue.

This has left me very puzzled as to what might be causing the blurryness with only certain, isolated applications or instances.

Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks :)

That is very strange, have you tried all the usual stuff like reinstalling graphics drivers. It could be a damaged windows install. It must be software if your hardware works fine in 32bit.

turn off triple buffering in the catalyst control centre. I had some unreadable text and when I turned this off it worked fine. I was using my 3870x2 at the time.

Yeah, I don't think the 32 bit windows was using the ATI driver and CCC, it just had the one windows found. Going to try reinstalling the graphics driver and see if it helps. Really don't fancy doing a re-install of Windows at the moment due to the amount of uni work and programs I would need to backup and restore etc. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

I had a look in CCC but triple buffering was already disabled. Thanks anyway

The blurry window looks like a Java window.
There should be settings for the quality

It is a Java window, its a program called JavaANPR that is written in Java.

Do you think it could be a problem specific to Java then rather than the rest of my pc/software?

I just opened up the Java control panel thing and it looks like this:

lol cant do much with the control panel like that. Looks like it could be Java related
Try re-installing java, with the latest updates etc

try your screen, i have a crappy 19" 1440x900 by acer and it has a focus setting, this was happening to me, but it wasnt as blury, at first i thought it was the gpu but it turned out to be the screens settings :D

Something to do with ClearType?

Have a look at the settings here:

Start > Control Panel > Display > Appearance tab > Adjust ClearType text

Its the new AMD MLAA, disable this and/or change anti-aliasing to MSAA instead (should be an option in CCC).

Many thanks Rroff, unticked morphological filtering and it was fixed straight away. What is the morphological filtering supposed to do anyway? Seemed to be more of a hindrance than a help or enhancement from my experience lol.

Can get back to my work now that I can actually use Java again :) Thanks again mate
