Blurry vertical lines

Hello,

I'm in a spot of bother here, frankly speaking. All of a sudden, today my monitor started showing blurry vertical lines all the way up and down in certain places. While it's not detrimental to me using my PC, it is sure as hell annoying. What's more annoying is that I'm completely stumpted about how to get rid of them. Google was just about as useful as handbrake in a canoe.

Monitor: Samtron 94V (bought over 2 1/2 years ago)
OS: Win Vista 32-bit SP1
GFX: nVidia 8800GT 175.16

Any help from you, useful folk, would be much appreciated, thank you.

checked the VGA cable?

Not sure how it could have been as a result of a cable if I just restarted a PC and there they were.

P.S. Games and other full-screen apps are not affected, these blurry lines only occur when viewing the desktop
