BMW 135i / 335i / 330i / 130i

Mulling a job move to a role that is 4 miles from home vs the 110 round trip I currently do.

There also thinking goodbye to the 123d I got July last year for something petrol based. Looking at the 135i, seems to get decent reviews etc.

Anyone had / or owns one?

Will also be getting a push bike lol

I think you'll need one.

I borrowed a 135i cabriolet from a friend when I was in South Africa last year, and it was ridiculously heavy on fuel. Admittedly I did have some fun in it, but even when cruising on the motorway in 6th gear it wasn't particularly frugal.

The engine is really good though. If you have deep pockets, do it :D

Well this one did a good job of emptying my wallet, so we'll have to disagree. It was an automatic if that makes much of a difference.

I guess that depends really on what you consider poor. If you normally drive a Golf TDI then it will be. But it'll do mid 30's on a motorway run which is stunning. A metric like 'it did a good job of emptying my wallet' is just meaningless really, drive a Prius to Scotland and it'll do a 'good job of emptying your wallet' too, doesn't mean it's super thirsty.

An 85 mile trip, of which the very vast majority was on a 120km/h national motorway used about 1/3 of a tank. I did have the roof down too, which probably destroys the aerodynamics.

Obviously a few enthusiastic pull-offs were performed from the traffic lights, but it just seemed like a lot to me. I don't own a 300BHP+ BMW, only a 220BHP one, so perhaps those two extra cylinders and turbo make all the difference.

How old was the 135i you had?

I've just had a look at my old receipts from one of the occasions when I was in Germany and had a 135i for the afternoon. I did 130miles of what can only be described as utterly blatting it (140mph driving, B road blasting etc) and used up 24 litres of petrol. This works out that i did 25mpg, which is brilliant! Although this was a a newer N55 single twin scroll turbo engined car and was a coupe.

Loved the car, although it did feel very very similar to my 335i which i was surprised about - i thought it'd feel more go kart like.

And if you're worried about fuel consumption - you'll forget about that when you hear the engine. The N55 sounds even better than the N54.

That's incredible!

I believe that the car I drove was a 2009 model.

Very good MPG as I barely hit 40-42 with my 123d and that's not driving it quick, that's just up the A3 at circa 70!

I found the 1 series coupe really cheap and kind of tacky inside compared with the e9* 3 series. This was a 125i coupe however I don't see there being much of a difference.

There is no difference inside and to be honest you are kinda right, the original 1 Series is fairly naff inside.

Well looks like new tyres on current car before any spend, Ditching RFT for Michelin PSS as I've got a 3 month notice if I decide to do anything
