BMW 330CI

Comparing tuned cars with standard cars makes about as much sense as taking a crap on a merry go round.

I know, but his was a sweeping statement and they are different classes of cars. Ickle bit of money and Roberts your father uncle you have a different beast.

I love the M54 engine in 3.0 form, love the E46 chassis aswell. But i'm never going to go on and claim it will destroy, main, kill, eat, savage, beat other cars etc.

Tis a good car though.

Another point that you need to remember is that the 330i is setup to be able to nicer tootle around town with a poodle in the back. The implications are that you actually need to use the "loud" pedal to really wake one up. Do that and even the auto will be quick. Doesn't actually feel that fast to 60, but if you have experience with one, the acceleration just doesn't seem to slow down until you're doing well over a ton (or so I'm guessing officer).
That's before you add in the grip level, which at least on my is stupidly massive. It uses 225s on the fronts, 255s on the rears (same as the E46 M3 standard fit tyres) and really doesn't handle badly at all.

In a straightline, unless you pussy foot around with the 330i, I'd expect it to win against a diesel Golf. Give it a windy road or track and the Golf can kiss his ... goodbye.

comparing a diesel golf to a 330ci is quite hilarious.

so what would win out of these; a koenigsegg CCXR or a re-mapped 330ci?

I dont believe people are actually trying to compare barry boy golfs to a 330i. :o

Yeah cause the 330i is all that!

Having owned both, at the exact same time, from a motorway point of view, a remapped golf 2.0tdi will keep pace with a 330i!!! Which part of this is hard to understand.

From a comfort, image, bla bla bla point of view the bm is better and nicer.

The N52 engined 330i however moves things on a huge amount and in my opinion leaves the E46 out in the cold.

Oh, and i'm no fanboy, of either brand. I'm just pointing out my experience.

God i do sound like a fanboy, dont i lol

End of the day a 330i gets more respect then some golf which every 19 year old in england drives.

You cant honestly think a 20,000 car is as good as something thats 34,000+

Oh so its about respect......

Think i'd rather have my old golf than an E46 as far as respect goes, every other road user wont call you a ******. And my Mk5 was 22k, which as it happens is nothing to be proud of. Way too much money.

Why? I've noticed you do dismiss a lot of what I say and often try to make me look stupid - not sure why as I just offer opinions based on facts and findings

No you don't, you post random rubbish and made up figures to support ridiculous and pathetic arguements. I find this annoying so I tend to be critical of it.

Hell even BMW quote the 330i TOURING as 0-60 in 6.5 seconds let alone the Coupe and thats with a load of junk on board so other than your mind I've no idea where 7 seconds came from.

The auto gearbox in the 3-series certainly doesnt strangle the engine

It adds 10% onto the time taken to hit 60 and reduces fuel economy by up to 30%. I guess its a matter of opinion as to whether that is 'strangled' or not but certainly it isn't the gearbox and engine combination of choice when arguing about straight line performance.

Huge performance hit from standing with the auto i've found, but on the move its level with a manual. The fuel economy difference though is staggering, not funny at all.

Although the new auto boxes are rather swish i must say. Think its much closer now with fuel economy...non?

Can't say I have ever posted made up figures or random rubbish, you just dislike the fact you can be wrong and not know about things. Don't worry I won't **** on your fire ;)

The 0-60 was from three areas; 1) Assumption from the 330 getting owned by an R32/A3 V6 2) Videos I have seen and 3) From the BMW website.

Right, so we'll discount that for starters. Thats your 'Can't say I have ever posted made up figures' disproved at the least ;) I don't really think we can take anything you've 'experienced' from your rather odd street racing world as fact. Quite where you live to experience so many different cars all drag racing each other on a daily basis I've no idea.

2) Videos I have seen

You told me earlier you were not using 'videos from youtube' to work out the performance figures.

and 3) From the BMW website.

The E46 330Ci Sport is not listed on the BMW website as it has been discontinued for 2 years. However I do still have the BMW figure from the E46 brochure - it is quoted as 6.3 seconds.

Do you now see why I get a bit miffed with some of the stuff you post? It's made up and irritating. I can't beleive you honestly tried to discount the figure I gave becuase it was 'from a magazine' whilst at the same time using a figure you'd made up becuase you once saw a 330i 'get owned'.

Used search > technical spec > 0-60 and seen it more than once.
