I just picked up a 5-Series GT as my courtesy car while my 750i is being fixed. Interesting but pointless car is my opinion.

The interior is lovely with electronics and navigation that finally brings BMW up to spec on that front. Very impressed with the ergonomics. The drive is decent if a bit crashy over poor surfaces which I suspect is the fault of the RFTs.

Performance is good from the 3.0d which seems to be a lot more refined than the one in my previous 730d. It's still no petrol I6 though.

My main issue with the car is that I can't work out who it's aimed at. Every time I think of a niche for it, an F11 (5-Series Touring) would fit the criteria better and is cheaper.

It's also ugly

What's up with the fiddy Rilot? Is it something from when you picked it up or has it gone wrong already? :( Must have missed that post in the other thread

On topic though, they are seriously ugly. I've never understood who buys them either

Saw one about 6 months ago on the M1, followed for a couple miles because I was like WTF is that and why is it so hideous.

Not seen any since.

the only place I ever see them is at cooper bmw

Personally I actually quite like it, but the touring is more practical and suits us.

there are a few round here, but i'm still confused as to what the hell they are actually for? They just seem to be a slightly taller 5 series with an ugly boot or am i missing something?

All the lovely things about it apply equally to the regular 5 Series. It's only real purpose was as a nice 5 Series for people who couldnt wait for the F10 to be released.

Walked past one last night and my initial reaction was wtf then I realised what it was. It’s one ugly beast and I can’t see why you would choose one over a touring.

My dad's just picked up a 535i GT and it's brilliant.
You've got much more space than in the F10, especially in the back. As long as you've got Dynamic Drive, the ride's fine, even on 20"s.

Sure, it's not as sporty as an F10, but then it's not supposed to be. To be honest, I don't even know what it's supposed to be, but my dad didn't want an F10 Touring and whilst the saloon was very nice, you get a lot more car for your money with the F07.
The longer wheelbase makes for much a smoother and comfortable drive whilst seating 4 or 5 adults without any problems at all.

The 530d GT isn't really all that great, but the 535i/d and 550i are very quick. Not much slower than the F10 at all really. 6.1s 0-60 isn't half bad for the 535i GT considering it weights over 2,000 kg.

Not sure why he preferred it, but we found a completely fully-loaded (HUD, comfort active seats, rear entertainment, etc..) one year old 535i GT direct from BMW Munich. He rushed the purchase due to a dealer offering a 4 year full BMW warranty, but he probably would have gone for a GT anyway, he just preferred it.

And you barely see any about, comapred to a million 520d F10s every day..

I've seen plenty, so I'm a bit puzzled about the rare comments.

probably a combination of me living on the roads and the GT being so damn ugly you can't really miss it.
