BMW Aux temperamental

Without taking it to a garage, is there anything I can do to sort it out? I bought another new aux cable yesterday, plugged it into phone and spotify worked. Come this morning, same again and nothing. It's always been like this, it's a f20 BMW.

Brand new phone, and normal headphones work.

Just the one in the arm rest unfortunately.

Had this before in a fiesta. Turned out that the one of the wires had come loose from the back of the aux socket. It's likely that's all there is to it.

Are you charging the phone at the same time?

I had this with my Nexus 6P and the car fast charger I bought for it, once the charger was connected it would drop out the sound and aux in would disappear on the in car menu (2007 Z4M). The only solution is to not plug the power lead in and aux cable at the same time

Damn, check for a loose connector on the back of the aux port or where it goes into the head unit. Also check for loose/damaged wiring on the connectors at the same time.
