My friend wants me to go with him to look at these at the weekend.

I always wanted an e39, but never got round to it. I ended up getting a e46 and had all the common problems with that like the coolant leaking and CC valve and i know most of them are same on the e39. But is there anything else anyone can think of? The biggest thing is the rust, from i have been told it has one very small bubble on the sil. I said to my friend to cough up another grand and he could get a e60, but he has a soft spot for these and has always wanted one.

I agree, but its up to him and he very rarely spends a lot when purchasing his cars. He runs them for a year or two then finds something else that is cheap. I am sure it will need some work doing all cars do. My 15 year old is200 has needed a few things, mostly wear and tear items doing this last year. But I shall changing that soon. I would be a bit more understanding if it was a petrol a 540i something a litttle more interesting!

Well after looking at the car and us discussing it over a brew he choose not to go for it. To be honest apart from the one bubble starting the car was fairly clean for a 16 year old car. But had a few issues that would have needed attention straight away.

A £1500 - £2k car in reality then (and at that money, I imagine your mate may well have pushed the button...)
Unfortunately, even shabby ones are commanding more these days - as this seller proves - as I alluded to earlier, I think Fox would be very surprised as to how much his would fetch to the right buyer.

Yeah it’s certainly more around that price mark, maybe if it had been a private sale it would be closer to that price. I think he would have brought it, if it had been.... that way he would have had the cash to sort out the issues straight away to.

Iv have never seen Fox’s but from the sounds of it, it’s a well looked after example. I must admit after looking that one, I realised how much I still like them, I found myself looking at 540i’s last night. They are on there way to be modern classsics so I would assume that why the prices are increasing. I have been surprised by the price of some them.....
