BMW E87 130i engines.

Did the E87 only get the N52 engine? I see there is one with a black engine cover and one with a silver?
I guess the troublesome direct injection N53 never came to the 130i?

I don't believe the N53 was ever in the 1-series, no.

N52 was in the 130i, N54 was in the 135i.

There was a facelift in 2008, which also added some Efficient Dynamics stuff to the N52, so I would assume that's what it would related to.
My 130i is a 2008/LCI and has the black cover. I guess the silver covers are on older cars.

EDIT - a quick Google suggest that is indeed correct.
