Hi,

Purely out of interest, if anyone here has an EfficientDynamics model 1/3/5 series, what sort of MPG are you getting (woudl be useful to know what types of journey you do / driving style etc), and are you happy with it?

Cheers :)

Do you mean the actual EfficientDynamics model, or do you mean any BMW with 'Efficient Dynamics' concepts, ie pretty much every BMW sold since 2007?

There is a distinct difference but they don't make it easy for you to work that out!

Sorry sould have been clearer - the actual ED models specifically (particularly the new 116 ED)

Not sure if it's an actual ED engine, but my 58 plate 120D M Sport got 44.8 over 20000 miles of abuse.

He's clarified that he's after the actual ED models - yours is an M Sport, not an ED and there was no ED trim level in the previous 1 Series anyway.

Yes I failed to spot that clarification.

I was busy trying to remember all the Effecient Dynamics BS in the literature for my old car. IIRC with the older model 1 series the sales guy was banging on about the Effecient Dynamics bit meant it merely had stop start. I believe the first model 1 series did not have stop/start.

Oh god.

44.8mpg would be nice.

If I could afford to run an m3 without worrying about fuel costs, trust me the dirty dagdagdag wouldn't get a look in!

Valid point is valid.

We have a number of 320Ds and what I don't get is you chose model A and it's kinda of good. Performs well, isn't particularly noisy, and seems to be run by nuclear power. The following day you get a 320D that's slower than a slow thing and is a ballache to drive.

There's minor differences in spec (I'm sure you could spot them Fox) from what I can tell, but in terms of overall 'car want', one I could see myself living with as an everyday car - the other I'd want to set fire to. Yet they both appear to be the same model.

I'm going to make a note of the pool cars I use, maybe there are differences. The good 320Ds I've found are actually easy cars, and I must admit I've been thoroughly tempted. The dogs though, just wow, they're horrible.

My old 'dump' car a 1995 320 E36 is back up for sale, very tempted to buy it back! 500 quid, and probably the most reliable car I've ever owned, even though I bought it specifically to dump in Wembley.

I tested a BMW 1 Series 116d ED earlier this year and averaged 69MPG over a couple of days, approx 80 miles non motorway.
One of my colleagues has ordered a 116d ED but it doesn't arrive until late June - he's planning a road trip to Belgium when it arrives so will report back.

Earlier this year - i.e. Mid March.
Cars were being delivered to owners around then.

That'd be very interesting - thanks!

Brand new F30 320D ED.

5 weeks of commuting, 60% NSL country lanes, 40% A road 30 to 50 mph. Average mpg, measured on brimming tank ~60mpg.

That a 70:30 mix of ED : Sport mode, so mostly sensible but a fair amount of later evening hooning it home.

I'm very pleased, as it is nicely surprisingly nippy, even after the Scirocco. If I was more motorway / 100% ED I could easily see ~ 65+ mpg.

Hope that helps.

.

Funny you mention that, my previous 06 320D performed a lot better imo then my mates 08 320D, his got about 44mpg avg and still roughly does as he still owns it, mine did about 35mpg over the 40000 miles i owned it but just seemed a little louder and gutsier, i drove his for about 3000 miles when i was taking care of his place for 4 months.
