I asked on PH and got one response, don't really want to sign up to any BMW forums - can you help?

Expecting delivery of my new daily driver next month, gone for a 320d M Sport XDrive Sport Auto.

Probably should have gone for a 330d but going to be doing loads of miles so chose with my sensible head on, anyway do BMW offer any power upgrades which are warranty friendly?

Alpina chip?

I know MB offer Brabus chip on new car with warranty upto 60k, whole reason for a brand new car was the full warranty so don't want to buy an aftermarket remap.

Thats for the E90 (Despite the reference to xDrive which wasn't offered here). It's vehicle specific as it includes an uprated intercooler AFIAK.

D'oh. Never noticed that.

How about this then? http://shop.ac-schnitzer.co.uk/performance-upgrade-diesel-4092-p.asp

AC Schnitzer. Bloody expensive really IMO, but comes with 2 (extendable) year warranty that runs alongside your BMW warranty, and brings you up to 218 BHP.

You can go for the full conversion mind you, but at £9,000 - £10,000 it aint cheap.

And I suppose that "drift" motor in your sig is running standard power?

Why spend an extra £3-5k on the engine size up, when you can pay £1k in official mods to make it as powerful, and keep the same fuel economy as the smaller engine?

The 325d has the same size engine with the same fuel economy though.

If he wanted xDrive though he has to go to the 330d as the 325d is RWD only, for some unknown reason.

I don't know if Bluefin do the new BMWs yet but you can literally put the car back to the standard map at a moment's notice if you keep it in the car.

Not yet. I have a bluefin unit here (from my 335d), but won't work with the F10/11 at least. Although not entirely sure about the F30 though.

Was there an option to get a more powerful version from the manufacturer?

That's really not the point though. There are still faster cars. Such as the Skyline in the case of Nissan there.

But the point remains that the official PPK from BMW will always be worthwhile. I just wish they had it for my F11. I'm really not into spending over £3k for it. Could have got the 35d engine for that outlay.

So just to clarify, the official PPK from BMW is not worthwhile for you? And therefore not always worthwhile?

Nope. For clarification.

The PPK is not available for the F11 530d (LCI 258 BHP), and as a result, the only option available to me for more power is the after-market AC Schnitzer power increase option, which comes in at a little over £3k, for what is essentially little more than a remap that will add little, if any, to the value of the car.

The BMW PPK however, is an official BMW product, and in the case of the OP's 320d, at around the £1000 mark, he will see performance gains, and possibly a value gain in his vehicle as it is officially a BMW pack, that doesn't have any bearing on the official BMW warranty. The increase in vehicle value won't obviously add the full £1,000 paid for it, but the OP could reasonably expect to ask £500 more than a car that doesn't have it.

Asking £2500 more for the AC Schnitzer "piggy-back ECU" isn't going to happen in the real world. MAYBE an AC Schnitzer tuned 530d might be worth £1,000 more than one without, but that may well be a push. Obviously a full AC Shnitzer converted car can command a serious increase in asking price, but at over £10k, it's not worth it either. To me at least.

Of course, an official BMW PPK for the 530d may not produce the 309 BHP that the AC tuning does however. So that would be another consideration. But the official PPK for the 320d would be a no brainer for me. Worth it all day long. And if there was one available for my car, I wouldn't be here talking about it, I'd be blasting around enjoying it, lol.
