About to pull the trigger on a 2015 330d touring but as I will use the car to tow I have a question about Efficient Dynamics.

There is a blue battery icon on the instrument cluster and the words ‘Efficient Dynamics’ in blue outside the rev counter next to another gauge.

Are all 330d’s Efficient Dynamics cars? Should I avoid as I tow?

This isn't unique to diesels, all BMWs have it

I had a 2015 320d ED. Very efficient in terms of fuel! Didn't make much difference in terms of performance- I was initially just after a 320 and ended up with an ED, I was really happy with it!

As far as I am aware- no there are non ED 320s and 330s also

So, to be clear there are non-ED and ED 330d’s? Both can tow? I thought the 320d ED couldn’t? @[TW]Fox? Tried Google….. more confused.

Only the 320d is available as a 320d and 320d ED - that is just a detuned version. There is no 330d ED.

I thought the EfficientDynamics part on the cluster only shows up when in Eco Pro mode but I can’t remember now. My car pretty much lives in Eco Pro since I’m just ploughing up and down motorways all the time anyway.

Ah just checked. The Eco Pro mode by default shows a charge power bar, but you can turn it off so it shows MPG but the Efficient Dynamics part and battery icon is always there.

Only the 320d had a specific efficient dynamics model and this was more about low company car tax.

All BMW diesels of this generation will have the instrument panel you describe, it's just to show when the car is putting energy back into the battery. It isn't a hybrid system.

Another quick question, if I may…. the car I am looking at is a 2015 MY but appears to be pre-LCI.

In the 330d is it a different engine (better/worse?) from pre- to post-LCI? Should I avoid the pre- LCI car(s)?

Same engine

Nothing to avoid on pre LCI, but you’re less likely to find one with CarPlay/latest IDrive system if that bothers you.

Yep, though on the plus side, retrofitting some basic things like an ID6 head unit, reverse camera, front parking sensors etc is quite easy on the F3x series :)
