My partner has taken an interest in a BMW i3 and I initially dismissed the idea but after doing some research the car and costs don't look too bad.

Car
Fully electric with a range of between 80-100 miles with the car in Comfort drive mode. The range goes up to around 120 miles in ECO mode.
The car weighs 1200kg with 170bhp, so it's pretty quick with maximum torque available from zero revs.

Costs
She can lease one though her company scheme for £350 per month (NIL Deposit), which includes all insurance, maintenance and tyres over 15k per year.
She does about 60 miles per day travelling to work and back so this would save her approx £150 per month on fuel.

So for a fixed cost of around £200 per month she gets to drive around in a cool electric car for 3 years.

Thoughts?

How much does the home charging station cost? Also any idea how much it will cost you per month in electricity?

edit: looks like it's £315.00 for the home charging.

Personally, I think it's sounds OK. Have you looked at the e-Up!?

60 miles per day all month is 1200 miles, surely her fuel costs are way in excess of £150pcm?

This only adds more weight to the i3 idea i know. Of course work out how much the i3 will actually cost to charge, electricity isnt free :)

On a night charge at low rates, it can't be too bad.

He is unlikely to have Eco7 installed, and even if he switched it will cause a jump in his daytime rates. I would bet that this will be charged through a regular single tariff.

Quick fag packet calculations based on the 0-80% 7 hour charge rate at 10A says that it will consume around 17KWH to 80%. Really roughly its going to be about £3 to charge it up with most of the charge depleted daily.

Battery is 18.8 kWh so depends on your tariff. might be worth switching to a higher daily standing charge for a cheaper kWh rate.

So its probably a 16kWh charge. I personally pay 11p /kWh flat rate so less than £2.

does it come with solar panels? oh ...wait... I live in wales.... does it come with a water wheel to turn rain into electricity xD

doesn't sound like that bad a shout to be fair!
