Hey all

my excellent m140i had to go in for it's 1st annual service recently and they put an update on the cars software as part of the service.(something about sustained no load high revs can damage engine) Then when I got it back all my radio and settings presets were all gone. Fine no big deal set it up again.

Then i noticed the I drive menu in side the car any time the car is pictured such as changing modes, and the little dash LCD in beside the clocks I'm nearly 100% sure used to show my car in blue paint with the cream interior (like my actual car) But now is shows a boring silver SE spec looking 1 series instead.

Am I going crazy or is it not suppoed to reflect how your car looks, can any other owners confirm ? I really liked that feature.

Also seems they did not add it into the service schedule as it still has only the pre delivery service and the app is complaining I've missed my service -- related ?

I thought it was coded to the VIN. The Supras show the correct colour etc of the car and they use the same iDrive?

I highly doubt it showed you're exact spec before.

The car that pops on the iDrive in the M2 is a standard (silver) 218!

The BMW iPhone app however gets it right.

Sounds about right for the level of "service" you actually get for your supposedly "premium" branded vehicle, BMW (and other similar marques) really know how to take the ****

The one thing I expected but have never experienced with BMW dealers is the little detail touches like making sure a book is stamped, or, your radio wasn't screwed up etc what's apparently second nature to my lowly local Ford dealer is absolutely lost on the inhabitants of the very imposing and impressive looking BMW dealers.....

Hmmm ok the bmw connect app shows the right car but you guys are saying it probly always was silver on the idrive system . I really thought it used to be blue on the lcd beside the clocks.

i’m going back to orrow to get the service thing updated.

it is the pro-nav system option wth widescreen etc. Its a 68 playe 1 year old

My M140i shows some silver generic 1 series whne I go between driving modes. I think I'm on the most recent software.

Did you ever fix the car colour change on the idrive @whitecrook ? Mine has done it!
Hi ! No I never got it 'fixed' I just assumed that i remembered wrong, are you saying yours was coloured and then it shows a generic?

I think I was getting confused with the connected app, which does show the colour and spec but maybe it's just some wierd mandela effect or time paradox :p...

TBH, unless i'm using sat nav i have the screen off 90% of time anyway. It's mostly pointless stuff on it anyway.

on a side issue does anyone know what all the lines and stuff in the trip computer actually mean ? Oh nothing? it's just pointless graphic nonsense? As I thought.

I thought i had pictures of it but i must have deleted them .

My 2018 3door dark grey M140 has has always had a picture of a 3 door dark grey 1 series - likewise always assumed it was tied to the VIN.

Yes, mine has deffo been white/matched on my iDrive since i got it last year. Just a few days ago i noticed it had changed to grey. Hate it! :D

I have a service coming up soon and BMW have said they will have a look in to it.

It bothers me immensely!

Pics, just to put this insanity inducing thread to bed? Please :D

I still get annoyed that I paid for the premium screen as it was a must have .... And never use any of it !
Tbf, welcome to any premium car infotainment system where your mobile phone beats it on every single test.

unused premium screen - is blackout mode an option on the shadow edition ? if I know where I am going then I don't need a distracting, lit screen, in my field of view.

When my infotainment get's reset - it's the radio presets and equalizer configuration that are onerous to re-do;
otherwise after a brief period of novelty, like wallpaper pictures on laptop/phone, car graphics are really non careabouts.
