BMW offering remote control for free

no it hasn't. not for all BMW's. it all depends what model and age your car is.

I have never owned a BMW where it hasn't been included as standard for the life of the car. The subscription element covers things like real-time traffic information - the basic remote services were always functional for the life of the car.

Last week this was showing in my car as being active for life and therefore not available for selection. Now, it shows as available for £0 which it didn't before. I suspect it's just an issue with how the site is presenting the options.

When I bought my 2019 330i last year it had remote services available for a few months until it expired and then it was £99 to renew. Black Friday last year made it £79 on offer but I didn’t renew it as I never needed the remote service functions.

Thanks to this thread I’ve now checked my bmw app and I have it again. Thanks op!

Has always said this for me. Cheeky that they started charging for it.

The standard booster package does also list it, so can imagine it being true. Shows up as an option (albeit standard) as well for original invoice.

Every car I have had with these services has said the same, always been listed with Unlimited Duration?

As I said above, last week I had it showing with Unlimited Duration now I have the option to add it for £0 - what has changed?

I had to pay £79 a year for the connected booster package on my 2018 G31 to get remote services. Without it the mybmw app just said "no active subscription" and the various lock/unlock, location, fuel level features etc. were not present. Since the recent change, I now have it with unlimited duration for free.

Fwiw my pal had a 330e and he needed to pay to get basic stuff.

I've just found my 2021 price list and you're right - on the current 3 Series, it was only included for 3 years.

Must have just been the previous cars where it was free for longer?

Is there any way to check whether this is compatible on specific cars based on VIN, or otherwise. I don't have a BMW login so loathe to create an account only to be told it's not available for my 2017 M240i.

I tried what was suggested in HUKD i.e. look for a "Remote Software Upgrade" in the car's menu system, but I haven't found one in the Vehicle or Idrive settings.

I dont think it was my wifes 2015 2 series was only free up to the third year then its was £35 for remote services. A lot of the Connected drive stuff is half price on black friday week that when I used to buy stuff for her car and im waiting for this one to see if they drop the speed camera prices for mine.

My 2015 5 Series had lifetime remote services. Perhaps it was part of the Professional Navigation package.

It's only £25 though isn't it? :D
