BMW pre facelift E46 LED lights

These lights on ebay, are they just plug and play, I see other auctions mentioning the ECU needing to be reprogrammed?

Do not fit aftermarket lights, they never look good, they always look tacky. Do the conversion using OEM parts or dont do it

The ones which are M3 OEM said you may need to get the lcm reprogrammed. Whats that all about?

LCM is the light control module and yes, it needs reprogramming to accept LED lights.

Also if your car is pre 2001 you'll need a whole new LCM which costs a packet.

you need to re prog the LCM , a new wiring loom extension and ( depending on if the lights come with them ) a new light backpanel which contains the boot light

and as said pre 2001 ( if you do not have auto lights on ) then you need a new LCM

last thing is that the progressive braking thingy ( outer ring brighter under heavy braking ) will not work , you can wire it to always come on under all braking though

Car concerned a Nov 2001, does this have autolights, not got the car yet.

Is that the build date or the registration date? You'll probably just have to check when you get the car to see if it's ok as BMWs can be a bit blurry as to when things are changed. I've seen a 53 plate 330i with a 17 pin round pin radio connector and these were supposed to have changed in 2001. My Jan 2002 built 325ci also has the 17 pin connector.
