Hi there I have a bmw 323 CI coupe 2000 e46. It's due a inspection 2 service shortly and I was wondering what this involved because I may well do it myself. Am I right in understanding it's the following bits?

Oil + Filter
Gearbox oil
Diff oil
Coolant flush
pollen
Air filter
Spark plugs

Is there anything else that would be done on the inspection 2 service? Also does anybody know a good independant bmw around the cambridgeshire area, closer to peterborough would be better as I may well just get it booked in!

Thanks Phil

Diff and gearbox oil are not part of the E46 Inspection II.

It's the rest of the stuff you've listed, plus a whole bunch of checks of pretty much most of the car.

Why not just take it to BMW? With BMW Value Service an Inspection II on an E46 323i is just £319. An Indy will charge £250-£350 depending on whether they skimp on parts or not. Not worth the hassle really when you can just take it to BMW for such a good price.

Take it to BMW - get a proper service stamp, a vac and wash whilst you drink their coffee and nosh on a danish pastry - sit back with a magazine and watch sky tv not forgetting to look down the blouse of the reception girl on the way in and out, they've always got cracking hooters.

It's worth the extra.

Snows isn't as revealing :(

Although they do make a killer cup of tea!

I may just have to switch to BMW now. :D

Fox, can you substantiate this vac-wash-coffee-danish pastry-top class titty fest at your BMW services ?

They have a cafe but I always get given a new 3 Series M Sport to play with instead.

It's as if they think that if they give it to me enough I might decide I want to buy one.

Oh wait :o

I did get a quote from the local BMW garage they quoted £399 which I thought was a bit steep and just wondered what was involved. I suppose it's worth keeping the book stamped. When do the diff and gearbox oil need replaced? Do diffrent dealers have diffrent prices then?

Thanks Phil

My local dealer is a bit crap really... Jumped up receptionist who I've heard make things up on the spot every time I've been in. Flavia coffee machine and not even proper milk, just those little UHT milk portion things.

Sales and Servicing are in separate locations so can't even get a test drive at the same time.

Last time I went in the wireless access wasn't working so I just had to sit bored.

Worse of all, they're just generally very very slow and every time I go in I get frustrated waiting.

I genuinely get better service at the independent I use instead - the indy even does a better job of washing the car (the ex BMW master tech who owns the place does it himself, rather than some random spotty youth/dropout).

I enjoyed heading to my local dealers as the girl in the servicing dept is well worth it!!

She even said to me last time "i'll see what I can do to soften the blow" (when describing the £750 to replace a busted Central Control Unit!:eek:

Is it one of the big dealer chains like Stratstone? Most of the ones round here are Stratstone or Sytner now.

I´d be tempted to get it changed though, overkill perhaps - it really erks me that these days transmission & diff oils are deemed "fit for life" - imo, what a load of crap.

This is exactly what I do, and don't forget the free wi-fi access.

A couple of hours flies by on the net and watching Sky whilst drinking expressos and cappuccinos with one eye checking out the reception girl.

Going to give them another call tomorrow and get it booked in! Does the gearbox and diff oil need changed then?
