So I have always wondered, that no matter what BMW I have been in or seen either in the metal or in pictures and no matter what trim level or model all the pedals are plastic.

Friend had a M5 and it had the same plastic pedals (Which coincidently broke a few times) Is there any particular reason why there never seems to be any 'better' pedals in BMWs?

I use the term 'better' loosely as I am not saying plastics pedals break the car or anything more is NEEDED but it certainly is nice to have a good set of metal pedals and some rubber grip. My attention is always attracted to the pedals on what is otherwise a nice interior and think "Oh...meh" :p

Any englightenment?

Hardly a fetish, and as I have said when you design a premium interior why are the pedals the same plastic ones you get in a base specced model?

I personally find it detracts a little from the overall finish.

My 206 had metal pedals as standard and about 6 months after getting my CTR I realised it had plastic pedals which I thought was a bit naf.

The DC5 has the same style pedals though, so I might poach some of those one day.

Because the vast majority of owners the materials used to make the pedals are a total irrelevance. Do they feel nice to use yes, do they prevent slippage and provide a steady foundation, yes, do they look nice...........er.............dunno, never really crossed my mind.

Perhaps you had feet and eye fail?

Never known a car with plastic pedals, every car i've driven has been anti slip rubber or metal with ruber inserts, the pedal itself won't be plastic since thats prone to snapping.

Are you talking about the accelerator pedal? That's a plastic faced pedal....

Top quality german plastic mind! ;)

To go along with the steel counterparts required to drive it.

:D I kid I kid.

Maybe its just a pet peeve I have, but if I spend that much on a premium product I expect it to reflect it throughout, at least where it is easy to achieve.

I think you will find that depending on which pedal it is (C)(B)(A) or (B)(A) that some may be made fully of metal or plastic or a mixture of the two and finished off with a plastic end.

I've got pictures of a 5 series which shows the arm to be made of metal then it's just finished off with a rubber/plastic grip on the end.

On an E46 the clutch is plastic, brake is metal and accelerator is a flybywire throttle anyway so obviously is...plastic and completely detachable to fit a sprint booster dongle!

Just drill/stick on nice pedal faces and forget about it!.
