Could anyone recommend me a CPU cooler, that is cheap but does an ok job.
Thinking about using it for my GPU.

OR more importantly, if this will even work?
Yes it'll be a complete bodge job I know, but I currently have two case fans zip tied to the gpu heatsink anyway since the stock fan blew up.

It's the VTX Radeon 7870 x-edition.
Currently not decided what to upgrade to. So thinking about having some 'fun' trying to cool it for now.

just buy a secon hand prolimatech mk13

scratch that seems like they are like hens teeth now. they were really common about 3 years ago.

I would stick with what you have or get a proper aftermarket solution. Can't imagine the cpu heatsinks working well on a GPU and you have the issue of the weight which would be hanging on the card. nothing wrong with going the 2 case fan method anyway, I have 2 on my 7870xt because of how much better it is than stock

This works like a dream with recycled water cooling stuff but not so sure with air cooling due to the size and weight of CPU coolers, will they fit in the space if they do what strain do they transfer to the mobo socket? yes you could add supports but probably not worth the hassle.

Do a google around for corsair refurbished AIO coolers and buy one of the kraken G10 plates (just check compatibility with the kraken plate first). The refurbished corsair stuff will get more checks/etc than new kit. Had an AIO and a headset from the refurbs, both been solid as.

I'd try cable tying 2x 120mm fans to the stock heatsink after removing the stock fans first sometimes it can achieve great results
