Just thought I'd post about the latest distro I've grabbed to try and breathe life back into my tired old Aspire One. Bodhi Linux has fantastically small system requirements and, based on the Enlightenment desktop, still manages to look fantastic whilst running smoothly.
I only installed it last night so I'm still poking around, but I'm very, very impressed so far. It isn't possible to overstate how crap the Aspire One is, largely thanks to the hilariously slow SSD. However Bodhi is running like a dream on it. For any who don't know, Enlightenment is a window manager that's constantly in heavy development. It's really pretty and has features like animated wallpapers (and there are some absolutely lovely themes out there to be downloaded).
It's based on Ubuntu LTS releases but they plan to move onto rolling-release soon, thankfully. Oh, and they actually help in the IRC channel too.
Give it a try - especially if you have low-spec hardware waiting to be used. At install/first boot you're asked what kind of machine it should configure itself for. Nice touch.
