After a gym session, the soreness lasts up to 5 days for the muscles I trained on that day.

Would I still gain if i train the muscles while they're still sore from a few days earlier? Or should I cut down in training intensity, so they don't get sooo sore?

Thanks

You'll more then likely cause yourself an injury if training whilst soreness is still there.

O/T: Your website looks very familiar. ;)

Well we have all trained through soreness at some time. It's just a question of knowing your limits and still making sure you have the rest days in between etc.
If you train hard and especially if you are a beginner your soreness is likely to last weeks or maybe even months and so you can see how impractical it would seem to just simply stop training just because you are sore. A split might help or some other modification to your training. It all depends on the extent of your soreness.

As long as each muscle group is getting sufficient rest then don't worry about it. I'm assuming you haven't been training too long so your body is still adjusting.

are you eating well and getting enough sleep on your rest days in between?

also, gentle excerise like swimming would be good to get the blood flowing back through your muscles supplying oxygen and nutrients would be good a few days after

got some interesting replies in this thread... months?!
Continual hard work-training to the limit. The soreness is just an everyday event/occurance when you train that hard. Eat, drink, sleep, bodybuilding ;)

Edit: I didn't mean training hard for one week is going to effect you over a period of months but rather how you train over those weeks :)

I'm following one of Freefaller's training regimes that he posted in the bodybuilding thread a while back, and I am dying. But tis good.

Crikey I didn't realise I had actually inspired anyone! How you getting on with it? Don't push yourself too hard too quickly, even though I've been doing it over 16months it still kills me to this day, however it has worked well as I've gained over 14lbs in that time - 14lbs of good quality mass whilst losing some BF!

Even though I train hard, eat well, and sleep well, I still get soreness and stiffness from time to time. A regime/routine change will do this and variation is very important. Overdoing it is easy once you've reached a stage of decent strength and ability as you may not necessarily feel the after affects even though deep down it's doing the same thing.

You shouldn't be sore 5 days after. Are you warming up before, and stretching and warming down properly after training?

If you're trying to build muscle you shouldn't really stretch too much if at all before. A bit of a warm up on a bike or some cardio is better, or just start off with some light sets to get the blood pumping. Stretching afterwards is not a problem though.

I hear that EEAs are good for minimising DOMs, but also making sure you drink lots of water, and green veggies is supposed to help too.
