As per title can anyone recommend a really good bodywork specialist in Nottingham to repair some stone chips and a very small spot of surface rust on my wing?

Drive to Cannock and get arguably the best body shop in the UK.

http://www.shorade.co.uk

Used them twice in last few years, both times exceptional and my father used them last year on his 997, again superb. Neighbour used them on her TT few weeks back.....superb. You only have to go to their workshop to see why most body shops are pretty crappy when they exist on a back end of some industrial estate with dust and cars parked up all over the place.

Cost me £300 to have a scratch done on my GT3's door, complete door respray, just the door, no 'blending' across the other panels. Did the entire side of my wife's MX5 after she managed to scratch if from wing to boot, impossible to see it's be sprayed, just incredible work.

Just a slightly more local suggestion.

I went here to have my bonnet resprayed, some rust under the arches and the sills done also. Stonechips needed tidying up mostly.

They've done what I consider a good job on my silver car and if you have any issues with the paintwork after they have done it they'll make sure it's corrected at their own expense. Friendly bunch too.

Thanks for the recommendation chaps, it's only a very small spot of rust not bubbled or anything else (looks like an unrepaired stone chip on the rear wing) but I don't want to compromise with my car and get it sorted before weather gets worse.

How much did that come to, I'm terrified of not being happy with the work...

I had afew other things done to the car at same time so I can only really give you a ballpark figure, labour is invoiced for the whole time it was with them.

For the bonnet, sills and arches under the rear it can't have been more than £750. That's a real ballpark though. It's easy enough to give them a ring and then pop down and get a quote from them if you have the time.

As for the quality of the work, I was more than happy with it and their level of service. I'm sure they'd sort it out for you if you had any problems with the paint a few months on. They're a great local indie at any rate.

Best thing to do is phone around and get some quotes. I ended up using them after doing the same.

If you're going that far go to BMW Sheffield ( in house bodyshop ). They were the same price as an Indy and will be much better quality with a decent warranty on the work.

I'm sorry but that's nonsense. What makes you think BMW will do a better job?

Most decent bodyshops do warranty too.

You can just go back and complain and they will fix it until you're happy with it. I wouldn't trust an indy warranty.

What do you do at an independent when the owner isn't willing to do anything more?

Admittedly BMW didn't do a great job straightaway but when I kept going back it all became absolutely perfect. I have had 5-6 repairs done by them, the latter being perfect without my involvement.

I guess it's wise to go somewhere where you know they'll rectify it if it doesn't go to plan, but perhaps a bit negative:p It's better to go somewhere where you've have a personal recommendation, or you've seen their previous work.

What if the Indy is the approved repairer? Shorade above for example is independent, but fully authorised. So when my Porsche was in there I got a set of Porsche paperwork and a Porsche warranty certificate to go with the car. Personally I'd rather trust an approved specialist over an internal shop bolted onto the side of a dealer. It would be the same if I took a BMW, Audi, Ferrari, Aston, Bentley, Lamborghini there too. Would you not prefer to go to a place that has been approved by all those brands and authorised to do warranty repairs?

I would recommend auto body tec. http://www.autobodytec.co.uk I had over £1500's worth of work done by them on my MX5 by them to remove rust from the sills and arches and I've been exceptionally happy with the work done. They took the time to really explain my options and give detail of the work they would be doing before I had to commit to anything. They also took loads of photos whilst they were doing the work so I could see what had been done (they took almost 100). I've included a few of these below to give you an idea of the scope of the work I had done by them. The last picture is after I got it home and washed it. I was rather pleased given that it's a 12 year old car.

Wow so many recommendations, thank you all. The MX5 job looks great I won't need anything near that sort of work its just the odd touch up.

After I sold my GT3, the new owner hit a fox (not that one) and smashed the bumper. He took it to Shorade and had a new GT3 RS bumper fitted and sprayed and at the same time had the bonnet done too to remove some stone chips. This is it sitting in the holding area and you can see the match is good.

This is my door after a respray, no blending, just the door fixed and the match was impossible (to my eyes) to spot.

Silver can be a very hard colour to match so I think this shows off the quality of a good bodyshop.
