... but why are the strips of toast called soldiers? Whats the origin behind the name? One of those random thoughts and wikipedia was useless!!

i reckon it's to do with humpty dumpty ( i see someone get that before me darn it)

because humpty dumpty fell off the wall so he would be all runny and there were soldiers trying to put him back together

Yep my bet is with humpty dumpty. I remember coming across soldiers for the first time when I had it with spaghetti I think, but it always reminds me of a huge sundae I had afterwards
