boiler breakdown cover

Hi all, our boiler has gone wrong for the 2nd time in 2 months now so im going to get some boiler insurance, can someone recommend a good one, I dont mind having a £50 excesshas anyone got this and used it- do you get a engineer out quite quick ( as in same day ).

BG are probably the best known and afaik have the largest workforce, think they try for same day or next day for normal faults and are supposed to guarantee same day for emergency calls which means no heating or hot water afaik.

BG will come round and inspect it first, make you put right anything not 100% before accepting your cash.

TBH you're better off banking £30 pm, BG make something like 30% PBT, they don't make those margins for nothing.

Well im not going to pay 30 quid a month, you can get insurance for about £12 pm

They never insisted or even tried to sell me a power flush. Alls they did was service/inspect the boiler prior to commencing cover. Can't say fairer than that on an 18 year old boiler IMO.

Don't use BG, we were with them for 3 years, when we needed a repair in the middle of a very cold winter you couldn't get through to the call center, they had a prerecorded message something like a 3 day wait to speak to an advisor, ended up up getting a local guy in.

I'm with the aa and they have been fine. However they make it clear they are for emergencies only ie do bare minimum to get you up and running again and leave any further repairs to you.

I've been with them with homecare 200 in 3 houses and not once has a power flush ever been mentioned. Each year I find a better deal and they match it too.
