Hey all.

We have had British gas home care running for a while. Think I'm going to cancel it soon.

We booked an annual service (4-5 months wait) and that was yesterday.

A week or so ago we noticed a very slow but controllable drip coming from the casing. Tried to book an earlier repair/service but as we already had a booking in place, they would only offer to cancel that one, and book another at a later date to cover the repair too.

So that seemed silly as we had waited this long for the service to come round so we just thought we would wait a few days until they came anyway.

Guy came yesterday to service (I was at work but partner was home for it). He asked if there had been any issues, she mentioned the above and he went right the other way. Started really lecturing her about it and was very blunt/rude.

He booked us a repair for another day, said he's only there to service not repair. (There's probably a code they have to follow, fair enough) But his attitude has just put us off.

TLDR, are these services worth it? Is there a better option? Or is it better practice to just put a bit of money aside incase.

He did identify the faults which I appreciated, and as they are 2 separate faults, they incur the excess individually which is all part of the terms

Never saw the point personally, just save the money and pay for stuff when needed.
I don’t know with price of boiler parts. Using ovo you get an independence heating engineer who can still work not covered by the contract anyway. £12 is peanuts when a Worcester fan is £200 plus to buy.

I think having a long-term policy is probably going to be a waste in the long run, but a lot places will do introductory offers that you can get a lot of value out of.

The biggest issue with the boiler ones I noticed is that often if the boiler is more than a few years old they don't actually cover much. A lot of the time they're hoping to cover virtually new boilers which are really unlikely to need replacing anyway.
