We have an icos ideal condensating boiler that has been flashing code F L which basically means the boiler has failed to light after 3 attempts.

The boiler man came whilst I was at work and my wife was home and gives her the verdict that the boiler has a crack in the system but it is safe to keep on using for now.

Now the boiler is around 12 yes old so a replacement could be expected but unfortunately I don't necessarily trust this particular person that much and I wonder if what he is saying is true.

How can a boiler be deemed safe to use if it has a crack in the system?

Not all that clued up on boilers so happy to hear thoughts either way

Oh and BTW before you ask its a rented house and landlady chooses who fixes things

If you don't trust the guy, arrange your own boiler service/safety check.

Why do you care if you trust said boiler man?

Its a rented property, the boiler man says get a replacement as repair is uneconomical so landlord should be obliged to replace to keep the property in a habitable condition.

Rightly so, but I don't trust this guy and my landlady is good to us and treats us well. It is my obligation to look out her and stop her getting ripped off if I know for sure this guy isn't what he's cracked dup to be.

I for sure would want someone to tell me if they thought that was the case so I could at least get a second opinion, only problem is I don't have any proof of anything and no real knowledge about boilers to argue otherwise.
