Boiler Problems

My 2 year old switched off our boiler system yesterday, at the isolator switch. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, and in my frustration I also factory rest the programmable control thermostat.

Anyhow, the boiler is working again, I have central heating, but the hot water isn't working. It's a system boiler with an unvented "megaflow" tank. All the pipes that enter the tank are cold. It appears that the valve that controls the hot water loop entering the tank is closed.

Does anyone know what the problem might be. I don't really want to wait a couple of days, and pay £100+ to a plumber just to flick a switch.

Is the hot water even set to be "on" at your timer?

The timer mentions nothing about setting hot water on/off :(

I think it's just for the central heating.

It does give a "water supply" temperature, which is around 60 C.

We only moved in a couple of months ago so the system it's inherited.

mate that's ancient! Honeywell discontinued that about 30 years ago no joke!

Why did they fit you an unvented tank and not update your user controls

What boiler do you have? BTW that only controls your heating not your hot water

The system was installed by the previous owners. The boiler is fairly old, but all the valves, pumps, tanks etc look fairly new.

It worked perfectly right up until yesterday :(

The manuals for the system suggests it works fine with a hot water tank. It's very confusing.

There is a "temperature" control on the boiler which I assume controls the water temp.

Id say one of the sensors for the control unit has gone when the powers gone off/been reinstated

Your not going to get it fixed if that is the case as everythings obsolete for that mate!

There must be another manual as the ones you've found online don't show the hot water control only state that if wired up it could be used for hot water also

We've had it on the immersion for a couple of days, but I finally have it working off the boiler.

The programmer has three settings. Comfort, Activity and Economy. It only heats the water on the first two. Why it says nothing about this in the manual I have no idea.

It's actually quite a good system when you understand it.

Much better the newer Valiant Weather Compensating system I had in our old house, which required a degree in electrical engineering just to get the heating on. There was much swearing every autumn.
