Boiler Setting Help

Hi,

Just moved into a new place and would like hot water in the morning if at all possible :) but the timer controls are confusing. (Everything is electric)

The Timer is a Horstmann Economy 7 Quartz:

Pic of the device: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8241926/IMG_20101107_185605.jpg

Manual is here: http://www.horstmann.co.uk/downloads/ElectronicDocuments/Electric-Water-Heating/E7Q-UserGuide.PDF

Now if I turn the clock around to simulate a 24 hour period, it only fires up when 1 hits the "winter time" mark and it stays on till 6 hits the "winter time" mark. So it's on for a 6 hour period.

How do I set when this 6 hour period is? Very confusing because I really just want it on for a couple of hours in the morning and a few hours at night.

EDIT: It does say off-peak heater, maybe it's supposed to only boil from 1-6am and keep warm all day somehow?

Any ideas?

Well its an economy 7 heating system, is your supply economy 7? If not you might want to get that heater replaced. Looks like it is set to heat the water during the periods when units cost less.

Its an economy 7 heater so will only heat the water up on the predefined cheap rate electricity. So 1 till 6 like you say. I guess it should be able to heat enough water up for your whole days demand, either that or you boiler may well be able to heat the water in the day if theres not enough (don't know much about economy 7 so that may or may not be the case). You also have the boost timer to give you extra hot water on that unit.

Ok thanks a lot guys, I do have Eon Economy 7 power so that makes sense. Wonder how hot it will actually be the following night. Suppose that's what the one hour boost is for, will be interesting to see how much this will run up on the bills each month :(

Guess I just put the current hour next to Winter time then and it will fire up at 1.

Thanks, wasn't as complex as I was expecting :p

I had Economy 7 once.

Mine used to be luke warm by the evening and would need a boost if you wanted a shower or bath. Same with the storage heaters, they would dump all their heat out during the day while I was out at work and be next to useless by the evening.

Unfortunately it ended up costing us a fortune. Because of the way the peak electricity is billed, it's considerably more expensive, so used to really hammer our bill.
