We’ve just had a boiler service (valiant ecotec 831 plus) and the engineer has said the burn starts with a poor ratio (think it’s was breaching 350 parts per million of co) but gradually comes down.

He’s advised that he thinks it’ll be due to a dirty chamber and will need a strip down and clean.

Any idea how much these usually cost?

Did he not quote you how much it would be or did he say he didn't do that work, I would expect him to tell you needs a strip down clean and then give you a price after sucking through his teeth for a bit.

He said he doesn’t do that work. The company he works for will be in touch, I can then phone around.

Walk away from that, any company that does not offer a strip service as a standard should be struck off!

Find a local gas man that will strip service and maintain for you, ask around on local Facebook groups, in my area I know of 5-6 guys I would trust (helps I'm an ex supply engineer) .
