I am just starting to get into using C++ and 3D animation with 3Ds Max at Uni and I was wondering if the ocuk forum would have any good suggestions of Books that would be helpful for aiding my learning

Why Books?
There are thousands of online tutorials out there, which explain almost everything you need to know.

I myself, am self taught to use both 3DS MAX and program in various languages straight from the internet. However, I shall have a look in one of the uni bookstoors tomorrow and see if I can find a good 'set' for you.

Isn't there a bookstore near you?

Looking in a shop is one thing, hearing reviews from people who've read them is another.

I prefer books because if I have the internet browser open my focus tends to wonder ..

I did have a look in my local waterstones but all there books were about how to use windows and osx.

One of the problems with computing books tends to be that they are often huge tomes. By the time you've reached the end of them you've forgotten much of what you've read. I'd suggest the C++ Pocket Reference by O'Reilly (ISBN 0596004966), tells you what you need to know without the cruft.
