I am looking for a pair of speaker stands for my Edifier R1600T. Google doesn't return much for those speakers specifically, and I do not really know what I'm looking for when browsing the various audiophile stores.

The reason for the stands is so that I can add to my burgeoning monitor collection, and even though this Ikea desk is massive, There is already barely enough room for the speakers - and that's with them hidden behind the outermost monitors which is not ideal.

So does anybody have any recommendations? Or is it purely a matter of eye candy?

You may find a decent bargain on eBay. Maybe someone selling some stands they don't need anymore. As above, most will cost as much as or more than the speakers, especially taller ones if you want them to match the desk height.

Hey man

I like the Apollo A6 range personally.

Have a look on some hi-fi review sites and choose the ones that look the best ;)

Be warned that the taller the speaker stand the worse it will sound.

Also, don't forget to grab some high density stand filler (like Atacama Atabites) and fill each pole with the stuff. This will help to decouple the speakers from the stand and provide less colouration on playback.

If you want something "functional" looking I picked up some Stagg monitor stands from my local PMT for £25 which is an amazing bargain. Includes spikes and height is adjustable.
