'Boombastic' Games?

Hello everyone,

I've come to the realisation that I'm a big fan of fairly boombastic / intense / action packed games. At this point I'd say my three favourite games of all time are Resident Evil 4, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2. In each of them the pacing is absolutely perfect, the gameplay sublime and the presentation very slick. If I had to draw any niggles they would be silly.

I can't help but feel slightly dissapointed when turning back to something like Demon's Souls which although impressive simply isn't as fun to play as the above (not to mention being brutally cruel... yesterday I plodded on for ages just to have a dragon swoop in and kill me in one second and lose all of my progress!).

Can anyone recommend to me something similar? I'm not really into first person shooters. I've heard Arkham Asylum is supposed to be very good, any others?

Anyone else have similar tastes?

I'm a fan of third person action games too.
I enjoyed Dante's Inferno which is similar in style to God of War.
I'm currently playing Resistance 3 and am really enjoying it - I wasn't all that much of a fan of 1 and 2 but there's just something about 3 that's sucked me in - it is an FPS though so you might not be interested but I'm not a huge FPS fan myself.
Have you tried the Infamous games and Assassins Creed (from 2 onwards)?

Batman Arkham City is decent but I was slightly disappointed and enjoyed Arkham Asylum much more.
Other games of note are Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Darksiders, Red Dead Redemption, Metal Gear Solid 4.

I wouldn't say they were all 'boombastic' but they're very solid, enjoyable games.

I think that your word (or Shaggys)"Boombastic" translates to "Third person action games"

Batman is good fun, Metal Gear 4 / HD Collection also think you might like Assassins Creed?

Boombastic? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Anyway. Arkham Asylum is probably the best current gen game I've played. I've completed it 3 times and I'm considering buying it again to play once more.

Bayonetta - especially for how crazy cheap you can pick it up

I vote for this as well. It definitely fits boombastic and silly all at once.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 and 2 could also fit the bill.

Asura's Wrath looks to be over-the-top too. So much rage and anger in this, although I read the gameplay is very heavy on the QTE, so it might be a put off if you don't like that.
