Hey

Several things about Newcastle - Chelsea (Snore - z zz zzz) today, for me summed up what football in England has become.

To clarify and please feel free to correct me, but i believe deliberate handball is a yellow card offence. Yet twice in two games, Drogba has handled the ball when scrapping with a defender so that he might get a shooting chance.

We all know what the linesman "saw" on sunday against fulham, but even today when the foul is given against him, no card is ever shown.

im sure these next two topics are foremost in referees minds at the moment, but after watching the most boring game of the season, it suddenly began to bug me for the first time.

Diving and the surrounding of the referee. Mark lawrenson (spelt very badly), who is the worst commentator ever after ron atkinson, for once produced a statement of real truth. Who is going to be the first ref to send off 4 or 5 players who are surrounding him, because the minute that happens, no team will ever do it again. I believe a reference was made to Rugby league(possibly union) where this has worked effectively. So why not in the premiership?? Drogba of course never fouls, but the minute someone else touches a chelsea player he runs like the wind to protest.

Diving is making a joke of our football in my very humble opinion. As a united supporter, i will admit to shouting wildly when cristiano and ruud vantheman nistelthepistol rooy fall over like idiots. Not shouting for a penalty mind you, because rather the blatant attempt makes me feel embaressed at times to support such cheats.

Why is this in our game? It happens half as much in the lower leagues compared to the premiership, but why should it be happening at all?
Everyone knows the main culprits, Pires, Van nistelrooy, cristiano, drogba et al but nothing is done to punish them.

Sorry for the ever so long rant, but 90 minutes of my life instead of containing football enjoyment, has lead me to analyse a game that i love to a great extent.

Gaz

P.S yes i hate Drogba, and chelsea for that matter, but Mourinho forever has my respect as a manager so please no comments about how i have picked on DD or the chelski. :)
