Boosting DVD volume beyond max?

I watch a lot of DVDs on my laptop and on certain ones the volume is too low even when the speakers and DVD are at max. Is there a way that I can force the volume higher?

Using MPC and Win 7 if that matters.

Use VLC, that can put volume to 400%.

OK I'm checking out VLC but I can't see a way to get the volume higher than 200%?

Scroll on the screen when in full screen, I think.

What about the individual application volume control? (Assuming the Vista audio stack has been carried through to Windows 7).

Go to the audio switcher in MPC and adjust the boost.
