Boot camp 2GB RAM limitation?

Howdy,

I got another 4GB (2x2GB) of RAM for my New Mac Pro (800MHz) this morning, installed it, and OS X tells me I have 6GB RAM, great!

Well I then booted into Vista (32 bit) and expected to see 3+ GB ram (as we all know bout the 4GB limitation in Windows 32bit) but instead, it tells me I have 2GB or ram still? I tried rearranging the trays, and still the same.

So I read up bout it and its a known issue (with Apple/MS or Intel I don't know), but some people have said that using Vista 64bit fixes this.

I do have Vista Ultimate Retail, therefore I have the 64bit version, but this fault is not a Windows fault surely, as my PC 32bit version of Vista sees all 4GB, so using 64bit on my Mac Pro wouldn't make any difference would it?

Does anyone know the answer to this? Or ideally, experienced it themselves?

Any help will be appreciated!

It's 4gb memory in total, including that on your graphics chip. So 4gb - XXXmb = useable ram.

Na that don't make any sense. My video card has 256mb and I have 6gb physical ram in there, I SHOULD NOT be at 2gb ram, I'm expecting at least 3gb. Vista told me I had 2038MB before I installed the new ram, but I have the new ram in I'm still at 2038MB! I think it would go up by at least 1mb don't you :)

My 32bit Vista on my PC has 4gb ram in there and a 768mb 8800GTX and that shows 4gb.
