Boot Fail - Windows Audio Service Not Starting?

I just started up my PC from sleep and for some reason the audio wasn't working. The slider worked fine and when I played music the little gain bar appeared but I was getting no output through my speakers. Therefore I tried restarting my PC and my PC just stuck on the windows 7 animation screen. I can boot into safe mode but for some reason windows audio service won't start. Could this be my reason for my failed boot? I have not installed any new programs recently so have no idea what could have caused this.

Also how can I find out what is causing the halt at boot up?

I am running Windows 7 Professional by the way.

Cheers

Built in sound or sound card? Try disabling it in the BIOS if it's built in and removing the card if you have one to see if it's a hardware issue, if not and you can't boot at all then try a system restore if you have something recent.

The machine seems to boot fine when I remove my sound card. I will try replacing it now and see if it wants to work again. Thanks mate ;)

EDIT: Replaced sound card, all works fine now. Come to think of it I removed the card yesterday (completely forgot) to access bits on the mobo and probably didn't replace it properly. Thanks again :)

Might just need reseating, I had similar this with my X-Fi a few weeks back. At least if the card is knackered you can use on board (cringe unless you have post processing) for the time being.
