I've recently got a Western Digital USB HDD. When ever I turn my system on with it fails to get through the POST and just gets into a never ending cycle of rebooting halfway through. If I let the system boot into windows and then connect it, it works perfectly. My motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45 DS3.

Has anyone else come across anything like this?

You need to change your setting in bios. Plug in the hdd go to BIOS and change boot priority to your main os hdd.

No luck. With the hdd connected I can't even get into the bios. it resets before it's even started the memory test

hmm, then that doesnt sound like a boot issue. I dnt know what else to suggest i usually disconect any external stuff when i shutdown a comp anyway.

Seems to be the easiest way. I only use it about once a week to keep my backups up to date. I did try it on my sisters system (an old AMD 64 rig) and it booted with it connected fine. Don't really think it's worth trying a BIOS flash for such a minor issue
