Hallo, I'm trying to do a reformat to sort out another problem I'm having with a soundcard.

I'm trying to boot with my copy of XP Sp1, I get to the 'Press any key to boot from CD' message but pressing a key does nothing, I know the keyboard is working at this point as I can use it to move around in Bios.

I haven't changed my master/slave etc configuration in ages so am confused as to why I'm having this problem now, to make things easier i've now only got 1 HDD and 1 CDROM plugged in, HDD is primary master, CDROM is secondry slave, I also have the jumpers and cables configured correctly afaik.

Does anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple, please help me out as I'm so not in the mood to be mucking around with this today lol.

Thanks.

On the compaq tablet PC's we have at school, there is an option which allows you to choose which device to boot on- eg you can set the boot order to what you like but if this option is disabled it will always go to the HDD. Can't remember what the option was called though :(

Tried a USB>PS2 converter which doesn't seem to make any difference.

Boot order is set to CDROM first, I think the option you're thinking of is 'boot from other device' which is disabled atm, although enabling it also makes no difference.

In BIOS, enable USB Keyboard support.
In BIOS, Change the boot order (should be in advanced bios controls) to CD first.

Try a different keyboard.

Can't find an option for USB specific keyboards, although the keyboard IS working in BIOS as I'm using it to poke about and change boot order lol. First boot CD is already configured.

This is so strange though because i've never had a problem booting from CD with this exact same setup =-/ Had this keyboard for years too and it's never given me any problems.

I will plod on trying things..

I had the same problem yesterday while i was reinstalling.
USB keyboard would not work in the context you describe, ie "press any key to boot from CD" etc.
Weird because the keyboard worked fine in the BIOS !!

Solution = I had to use an old PS2 keyboard from my daughters PC.

Ah I figured that'd be the only solution :) Don't have one at hand so might go and ask next door LOL.

Thanks for all the help guys :)
