I replaced my IDE drives with a SATA drive two weeks ago, and I just noticed that my PC refuses to boot from it.

I had an issue with my OS today, and had to plug in an IDE drive to make it work

What are the first things I should check? I have already looked in the BIOS and the only difference with the optical drive compared to my hard disks is that it is on a different SATA controller...

IIRC SATA CDROM drives and IDE CDROM drives appear as different options in the BIOS boot preference options. Have you made sure you're actually telling the BIOS to boot from the SATA drive first?
