I have a headless media PC running W7, occasionally when shutting down, which we do by doing a quick blip of the power button it for whatever reason doesn't shutdown properly so on restart it then sits at the Windows didn't shutdown properly select what you want to do menu.

What I'd like it to do is always boot up in normal mode, no matter what, so is this possible?

Probably, you could try looking into editing the MBR to set it as a preference, although this could have implications further down the line when troubleshooting is needed and you'd have to mess around with a DOS program removing the code.

for example it is possible to always boot into safe mode without prompt (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...boot-into-safe-mode-without-using-the-f8-key/) but im guessing you would have to manually enter the code yourself via the text editor in cmd.

My machine abnormally shuts down all the time (just hangs at the "Shutting down" screen. During boot it gives me the prompts, but it defaults to "Start Windows normally?" and gives a 30-second countdown timer.

OP - does yours default to a different selection?

Also, what kind of settings are tagged in msconfig Boot tab?
