Right, i just tried installing the latest SuSe BETA...which failed when it wouldn't read CD2 so then i had to abort, only to find GRUB didn't include an option to boot XP
so then i installed xp again (so its on my partitions twice right now) and now its up and running.
The problem is that when i go into msconfig > boot.ini and get it to check all boot paths it can't seem to find the oldder XP installation, which seems strange as all the files are still there and intact.
i've had xp partitions dissapear before, but the 'check all boot paths' has always given me the dual boot option on startup....anyone got any ideas...i need 'my' xp back...this clean install isn't nice!
P.S/
i tried to 'view hidden folders' and search for boot.ini files after they weren't visable in either of the root directories, but i could only find backup files under - \windows\pss\boot.ini.backup
i've also attempted to follow what M$ say -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289022
but the boot.ini file doesn't seem to stick to what i save it as...it reverts back to the original after a restart.
