I decided to upgrade my sound-system in my car a few weeks back and to compliment my 17.5cm infinity component speakers, I bought a JBL Gran Touring amp and an infinity 10" Sub (or not as I found out - read on).

While I was waiting on my 10" sub off ebay, I borrowed a mates budget Mutant 10" sub and used that as my template for my new boot install.
I went for the low key look because I didn't want a whopping sub box sat in my boot taking up all the usable space, so I opted for a side mounted install which left me with all the boot space I need.

I've added two MDF sides for everything to be mounted to and behind the sub is a custom sealed box which fits between the wheel arch and the rear lights.

Half way through building the install, my Infinity sub arrived off eBay in it's sealed box all looking boomingly loud. But when I unpacked it, I discovered that it wasn't infact a 10" sub at all...it was a 12".
This obviously screwed up the design of the install as I now had a sub which was too big for the hole I had previously made.

Never one to be put off by such a thing, I fashioned up three 'adaptor rings' that set the sub out from the sealed box and everything was good again!

Anyway, here's the completed pics after they were carpeted:

yep nice and tidy , would put a grill on the sub though if you intend using the boot

I was about to suggest the same, could end up with something going right through that as its fairly low down.

Yeah I quite like it now, wasn't sure how it would look at first.

I'm gonna get a grille yeah, just finding one that doesn't look gash.

That is exactly what I want to do with mine.

How much space is behind the sub (i.e how far did your boot extend before hand)?

Got any photos of behind the sub?

No photos, but this should give you a rough idea of what the box looks like behind the solid board.

Loving the ghetto MSPaint drawings

Cheers, seems like the depth on my boot at the sides should be similar :) Will have to get some plans drawn up this weekend.

Thanks!

Sorry! :(

I wouldn't even bother firing up photoshop for that, lol. By the time photoshop had actually loaded you could have drawn that in paint :p

Not on this rocket machine!

(alright fine...photoshop was already open...)

Freefaller has an MX-5. I think it's impossible to drive one of those without having to have a little hoon... especially when you have the sound of turbo spool to make you smile.

When I'm on a 'hooning mission', I don't have music on. I much prefer to hear the engine :)

But still, a superb looking install. Especially one that you've done yourself. Does the cubic capacity of the box match the sub? Awesome work

So you don't listen to musak while you're driving?

Yeah but do you really need a sub in such an enclosed space as a car? Amped components do me fine, more than loud enough without the annoying boom boom boom of a sub.

If I was having a boot install it would look like that though, looks tidy :)
