Hello hopefuly some one can help me.

My computer wont boot in the short, when i turn it on i get lights but it doesnt seem to progress any further. It was working previously but after plugging a floppy cable in nothing now boots. power is flowing through the motherboard and fans are spinning etc. no beeping on the motherboard to say there is anything wrong.

thanks duncan

what are the specs?

to clarify you installed a floppy drive and now it wont boot? u sure the floppy drive is connected correctly?

try taking the floppy drive away and seeing if it will boot up?

spec:

amd 4000+ with standard cooler
liteon cd/dvd rw
asus a8n sli-se
antec sonata with psu
geil 2gig ram
geforce 7800gt

and yes after plugging the floppy in and im 90% sure i did it right and after taking it out it doesnt boot the issue i explain above is with the floppy removed

how about resetting the CMOS? have you tried that?

unplug power cable from pc
take battery out
move the jumper to pins 2 - 3 keep it there for 10 secs or a 1 min even
move jumper back to default
put battery back in
boot up

nope still has the same issue =(

could it be the motherboard?? even though i know power is flowing through it as fans are being powered and lights on the front of the case are working and there is also a green light on the bottom of the motherboard..?

what kinda thing can i do about this as i read in a post about ocuk looking at it as i brought it all from them...?

please can anyone help even their thoughts on the hardware that might be the issuse weather it could only be the motherboard or if it could be somthing else and ways to confurm their thoughts

- even if mobo is dead this happens...

tbh imo you need to go back to step 1....

test RAM, CPU and mobo....do you have another pc or access to a friends machine so you can test RAM, CPU and the your mobo?

thats ya best bet...if you have reset CMOS and everything is plugged in and you are not getting to the post screen then thats what I would do...

Does the CPU fan spin up as soon as you plug in the PSU 20/24 pin connector (assuming you have the PSU switched on)?? - if so then it is most likely your motherboard that has failed!

Try the same thing without any RAM in your memory slots - if there aren't any warning beeps then this is another sign that your mobo is dead.

I'm thinking you might have a rogue standoff behind the floppy connector, that has shorted since you plugged in the floppy cable - take out the mobo and check. Even better, try running thr board/CPU/RAM/GFX outside the case if you feel confortable doing it. Hope this helps...

ok thanks dont have any computer to check with thats an issue will try these comments and get back to you...all the fans spin etc when i turn it on including the 1 on the cpu and mobo and the green light that says mobo is working comes on so its not psu being switched off (damn would have been easy to fix that)

yeah i took out the ram then tryed to boot fans span as before but no warning boot...but as i get nothing on the screen could this be becuase nothing is loading so doesnt get to hardware checking point in boot cycle?

ok so if i took the mobo back to ocuk would they test it for me for free as it was purchased here and do i have to take it in person or can i post it with a copy of the purchase recipt
