hi,

i have an asus VIII maximus hero mobo, and i have an SSD and HDD installed.

the SSD is the primary boot order device and this always boots up fine, and i am using it fine.

the HD is listed in the BIOS boot list, but i do not see it when my desktop boots up.

the SSD is for bboting the OS, while i only need the HDD for storage.

i was thinking that because the HDD is not bootable, i should remove it from the boot list/priority order?

will this mean it should then appear on my desktop as an extra storage drive?

Is there a formatted partition on the HDD?

Open Disk Management and check if a partition exists.

This guide should help if you're new to disk partitions

cheers for getting back to me, Mujja,

i have done it (i think).

you was bang on the money.
it was unallocated, so i formatted it and partitioned it simply.

there was one thing:

to begin with, i needed to initialize the disk.
after checking the discs to initialize, it asked me about 'partition style'.

i was told that "the GPT partition style is not recognised by all previous versions of windows", so i thought, ok, i am using windows 10, and i am not planning to use this HDD with any previous versions, so i chose GPT.

i then saw a site that said:

"GUID Partition Table (GPT) for hard drives larger than 2TB in size."

ah, my HDD is 1TB, so i should have selected "MBR" (master boot record)?.

it seems more 'modern' than mbr, and i haven't read any information saying that i will have negative repercussions from selecting gpr.

...long story short...it's working :)

GPT is fine for disk smaller than 2TB and the default.

Glad you got it working.

Was it a brand new disk?
