boot partitions, MBR, etc... want to delete a partition

I had XP installed on a partition and then installed Vista64 on another partition on the same drive.
Can I safely delete the XP partition and still boot?
I will get round to a full reinstall of Vista using the whole drive but not yet, so I need to make sure this one is bootable if I delete the XP partition.
Worried about MBRs and such.

Have a look and see where Vista has put bootmgr. It might be hidden.
Even if you did trash Vista, you could boot from the DVD and repair the Vista bootloader.
