Boot Problem with new i7 Rig - Help Please?!

Okay I've put together my new rig all except the graphics card which I will be buying next month. Everything fires up as it should.. LED's on, Fans turning, DVD Drive and HDD's on.. however after about 4-5 seconds it just shuts off. The Power and Rest lights on the motherboard stay on but everything else shuts down.

I unplugged everything and fired up the bare essentials (CPU, CPU Cooler, RAM, and PSU), and then powered on the system. Everything turned on and stayed on.

I then reconnected the various other cables one by one,doing a test boot each time to try and locate where the problem was..

I found out that it was the System Panel Connector from my Antec 900-2 case that was causing the rigto shut down after 4-5 seconds everytime. This particular case cable in question has connectors for the Power Switch, Reset Switch and IDE LED for the front of the case.

Is it possible that I have either a faulty motherboard connector / adapter? Or possibly even the wiring or buttons inside the front panel of the case?

I'm hoping that if this is the case, I won't have to have the whole case replaced as that would be a real pain to remove everything and reinstall!


Can anyone suggest whether my suspicions are likely to be correct and if so would a simple replacement of the adapter or cabling be an option?

P.S: I bought all of the following parts from Overclockers within the last few months:

Antec 900-2 Case
Corsair TX850W PSU
ASUS P6T Deluxe Mobo
Intel i7 920 CPU
Noctua i7 CPU Cooler
Patriot 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
2 X Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD's
1 X Pioneer DVD-RW Drive

to check if it is this, does your mobo have a power button on it? that you can use to power on the mobo independent of the case? if so try that, it should confirm if it is this issue or not
In fact just checked it does, its below the DIMMs, try powering on with that and see how it goes

Yes the P6T does have an onboard Power and Reset button.

When the System Panel Connector is not plugged into the Motherboard I am able to manually boot and shut down the whole system using the onboard power switch. It runs fine and does not automatically shut itself off.

When I connect the System Panel Connector to the Motherboard and power on the PSU, everything turns on and then shuts off after 4-5 seconds. Both the Power and Reset buttons on the case and on the motherboard do not have any effect after this shutdown and I have to turn off the PSU.

The Motherboard's Power and Reset buttons remain lit while everything else turns off, but I cannot get it to reboot once it shuts down.

It's rather strange...


I will try that tip regarding the swapping of the power and rest cables to see if i get any results.


In the meantime, any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated!
