Boot problem with new Oc system--updated

Hi,

Recently bought this complete system with a gtx580

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-212-OE

Had some inital minor probs which were easily fixed with help from this forum, but have a new issue. When i first got the system, on power up it would start up, run for a cpl of seconds then power down and then power up again and then go on to boot normally. After i applied the Oc profile to the system i noticed it would boot normally everytime with none of the on, off on etc. Since then the system has ran like a dream, ran stability tests and no issues and system reports back as 4800 under load on cpu-z which confirms the overclock. The system has been 100% stable.

So today it has started to do the on, off, on thing totally randomly on start up again, this results in the system locking up on the loading windows 7 screen with the 4 glowing colours. Once locked up, it will sit like that forever unless i intervene. Liek i say, this is random. Sometimes it will boot normally, other times it will on, off, on then lock up.

Beyond applying the oc profile to the system in bios, it is all stock settings pretty much, so anyone got any ideas what may be causing this? Have removed all usb devices on start up and still randomly boots or decides not to.

Cheers in advance

hi, no its untouched since i have had it.

It is an Asus z68-v board, so im wondering is it worth investigating the onboard gpu as being a cause?

Cheers for the reply, im leaning more towards a quirk with this board at this stage after reading through this thread

http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/1161233-asus-p8z68-v-pro-double-boot.html

In particular the post by fudge half way down, exactly same issue. Seems some people have sorted it by setting the board to x.m.p ...if i did that im sure it would upset the oc profile settings? Happy with system performance and would rather not change it.

Further, have worked out this that this double boot only happens on a full cold start. I switch off the psu at night and this started toady on start up. Once i hold in the power button and reboot, runs fine, everytime. Switch off at back and turn on a few mins later...double boot and hang.

Annoying it definetly is but tolerable. Not switching off the psu should fix it altogether hopefully. Seems to becoming fairly common with this board, hopefully an update will address it.

Yeah a lot of people suspect ram timings, may be something in that. Will have to try it without the oc but i seem to suspect it is the cause, reports i have read are on oc'd systems

So it turns out this is becoming more of a problem for me and i am facing the possibility of returning the entire system based on this. Up to now, as long as i didnt switch off the psu, system would boot fine. Yesterday i started pc as normal, and she hung on the loading windows logo again. Powered down and system then booted fine. This morning before i left for work, double boot again and this time bios tells me overclocking has failed. Seems if i ctrl, alt, del at this point she will boot fine. But greets me with overclocking failed everytime after i boot from cold. Once into windows, everything is 100%..overclocking is stable and system runs without a hitch....i dont fancy having to live with this problem full time and do not want to remove the oc as this is the reason i bought this system...any ideas~?

Hi, thanks for the reply...will need to check the vcore when i get home from work. Will post this evening with info. Have also unplugged all usb devices before starting...same problem

Have taken a few snaps of the ai tweaker settings after i applied the oc profile...would appreciate if someone could take a look through and tell me if all looks ok.

Hi, cheers for the reply.

Yes have ran several stability tests and it passes them all. Once the system is into windows, i have experienced zero problems..its getting it there is the problem. Really not wanting to return this so hopefully the tech guys may be able to help before it gets to that stage. But i have had it 2 weeks now so i would need to find a resoloution soon.. However, if I do have to return it, i would be happy to perhaps change the board for something with less issues and pay the difference.

Its a real shame as the system is top drawer with the exception of the nonsense on cold start.

Hi, not yet as i wanted to give the tech guys i chance to throw some ideas about....

However, I may have just found the cause of this...perhaps someone can confirm if this is the likely cause. I noticed that my pc was plugged into the 4 way adapter in my room and not the wall socket...furthermore that 4 way adapter had been plugged into another adapter in my room (missus was hoovering and unplugged the pc and then must have plugged it into the 4 way and not the wall) So i noticed this 10 mins ago..plugged back into wall and now she has booted 3 times into windows straight away, no hanging, no double boots etc

Not jumping for joy yet but looking good...is it likely it simply wasnt getting enough juice?

Hi nicky..since i plugged into wall socket and posted last night...not had a single double boot, any hanging, any overclocking error messages....will see how she goes over next few days but my advice to anyone with similair issues is try plugging directly into wall socket..seems to have weirdly fixed my prob.

Hi, this definetly is a problem for me and im facing returning the system based on it. It can take 4 or 5 attempts to get it to boot normally and the rebooting involves holding the power button and restarting, cant be good for it long term.

Tried resetting to optimised defaults on the board and it comes back with a CPU fan error press f1 to enter setup.
