Boot problems - CMOS Error

Having problems

I've tried 2 chips and 2 different mobos.

So far , i've tried :

Q6600 in maximus ii formula *
Q6850 in above

Q6600 in maximus ii gene
Q6850 in above

* 1 time the bios screen was accessed

Now constant boot cycles ( det ram,cpuinit,vga bios, usb... ) ending with cmos error in all the above combinations.

But nothing on the screen, since that 1 time it entered bios.

Graphics card has green light indicating its working.

Could the PSU be causing this, i'm running out of options

It may well be the psu, can you test another one on your system, or try single stick of ram.

Can you run the system external to the case to rule out shorting ect.
