Basically, I've been refurbishing serveral different machines, to get them up to the same specification:
(Not an Intel user so can't really name all motherboard/CPU specs)
Foxconn LGA775 Motherboard - Bundle
Celeron 2.8ghz - Bundle
1gb Generic RAM (DDR400) - Bundle
Geforce FX5200 (Inno3d, 128mb)
Generic 350w PSU
Maxtor 20gb HDD
Asus Quietdrive 52x CD-Rom
I've been replacing the motherboards/ram/cpu on each machine and then giving them a nice clean install (full format), and Windows XP (Pro) is installing quite happily. However, after booting up into windows for the first time, there is a problem. The computer appears to load windows normally, but where the normal Login screen would appear the monitor simply switches itself off. The computer seems to remain on and I hear the hard drive loading as normal. I've gone into Safe Mode to install all up to date drivers and that seems to cure it, but only for one restart before the problem appears again. BIOS settings are at default, and I've tried changing many different options (making sure the boards boots AGP rather than onboard graphics 1st, for example).
This problem seems to persist across about 5-6 machines that I've been setting up, and as one install of the graphics drivers works, I've been able to set them up (updated windows, latest drvers etc), but they simply refuse to keep the monitor on past the loading screen. The monitor is fine (I'm using it on another machine perfectly), and I've checked that things like the resolution/refresh rate, are all setup within it's limits. What I find odd is that using the Radeon X300 (256mb) in exactly the same setup works perfectly fine! Is there a conflict between the motherboard and graphics card? Maybe a BIOS setting for nVidia cards?
I'm a pretty experienced PC user/builder, but this one has really got me stumped! (as an AMD/ATi fanboy it's only fueled my rage!)
Any help would be muchos appreciated. Ta guys.
