Boot problems

Hi,

Recently ordered some components from here to build my brother a PC for xmas.

All this has been done and he received his gift on xmas day and has since been glued to it, until now...

After returning to his PC after having dinner he found that it was still on but non responsive to any key or mouse movements. Obviously he was using the system before dinner so its gone into sleep mode whilst he was eating. (He is running Windows 7)

Now I've tried a few things to try and get it to boot but I'm getting nowhere.

There is no response on the keyboard and the monitor is in energy saving mode. The system is powered up with the fans running but no HDD activity.

I have attempted to turn the system off, unplugged, reset the bios and removing the CMOS battery and still I cant even get the bios screen to appear.

I have reseated all components and still nothing. When I turn it on it will power up and the HDD spins but there is no activity. At first I thought it was stuck in sleep mode but I'm now thinking something has failed?

Any advice?

Yep done that.

AMD FX-6300
Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz
EVGA 600W
Gigabyte R9 280

Look like to me that your graphics card Gigabyte R9 280 died just like my old graphics card BFG Geforce 6800 GT died years ago during gameplay so PC still powered up but no activity on screen then monitor gone in energy saving mode. I RMAed card and received replacement 2 weeks later worked fine.

I have tried a different monitor.

I believe he came back to the PC and it was in what appeared to be sleep state however it did not respond to... well anything.

I have swapped the PSU out and graphics card also so I'm guessing its looking like the motherboard.
