does anyone know of any good waterproof boots, that would also be suitable for day to day walkiung about shops/towns in.

normally i just wear steel toe caped workboots, always done be good but a bit more ankle protection would be nice.

also any that would be ok for a bit of camping/walking?

Rumour has it steel toecaps are a really bad idea to be wearing on a bike as the metal toecap has been known to cause toe amputations in accidents. I'm not aware of anyone ever having had this happen but maybe there is truth in it.

My day to day riding boots are TCX and I can walk all day in them. They are obsolete now but the following link show what appear to be the newer version but as I don't have these I can't vouch for how comfortable they are but If I were to buy a new pair of day to day boots, I'd definately buy these as I am very happy eith the older version.

As I understand it, Mythbusters tested steelies against the caps being crushed and severing the toe, whereas the myth came about because caps have on occasion been turned back to cut the toes off.

However, if you think about the level of force required to sever your toes in this manner and the sort of accident you'd need for this to happen... severed toes would be the least of your worries!!

Personally, I ride in 1982 Falklands issue Boots Combat High. The tongue is fully sealed and the boots get a good Nikwaxing/Dubbin treatment every now and then to waterproof them. I'm not so bothered about the impact protection, but the leather holds up just fine in a slide.
They are comfortable for wearing all day all conditions and all activities and have lasted over 30 years. Just change the insoles every 6 months or so!!

I was riding in alpine star all seasons boots and wore them at work all day as well. Pretty dam warm to begin with though. Keep in mind doing this will shorten the life of the boot. Mine lasted about 2 years of pretty much daily use

Steel toe caps are primarily designed to take force falling on the top of them. The severing of toes is allegedly from side (crush) impacts because that is not what the toe caps are designed to protect from. For example a side impact like a car hitting you and trapping your foot between the car and the engine block of the bike.

Back on topic - Alpinestars do some good winter boots that are comfortable for all kinds of use.

Looks a lot more breathable than my full boots!

What are the sizes like compared to trainers or walking shoes?
